Track Of The Day 12/7 – Marianne Faithfull

Angel

In one corner, you have the songbook of Fleetwood Mac – one of the most commercially successful groups in the history of pop music.

In the other, you have a series of visionary unmistakeable vocalists. Bringing the two together, ‘Just Tell Me That You Want Me’ was never really going to fail, the main surprise is that it has succeeded to such a beautiful extent.

Out on August 13th, the myriad highlights include J Mascis and Lee Ranaldo jamming on one time M&S theme ‘Albatross’ while Antony wraps his vocal cords around ‘Landslide’.

Containing seventeen (count ’em!) cover versions, ‘Just Tell Me That You Want Me’ is a varied tribute to one of rock’s keystone acts. By way of a preview, ClashMusic can present a version of ‘Angel’ by a wonderfully understated vocalist.

Marianne Faithfull imbues everything she records with a rare sense of emotion. Tackling ‘Angel’ the iconic singer leaves the song itself largely untouched, preferring instead to impact her personality through nuance.

It’s a graceful, powerful though subtle recording and one we’re very glad to make our Track of the Day.
