Sometimes you can catch a band too early.
When Echo Lake decided to place a few mp3s online, the London outfit were barely even a band. Two friends working in their bedroom, their ethereal noise-pop seemed to capture attention.
Lauded by a few important blogs, Echo Lake quickly became the name to drop. Meanwhile, back in the bedroom, the duo were rushing to cope with events.
Debut EP ‘Young Silence’ emerged on No Pain In Pop earlier year, bowling over fans with its layers of noise. Beneath this, though, lay a beating pop heart and the EP quickly sold out while the accompanying video by filmmaker Dan Nixon reached 100k views in a matter of days.
Since then, Echo Lake have expanded. Working on new material as a five piece, the London group recently completed a tour with fellow fast risers 2:54.
The dates demonstrated the band’s growing muscle, with singer Linda Jarvis’ vocals to the fore. Returning to the studio, Echo Lake laid down two tracks for a new seven inch on No Pain In Pop.
‘Another Day’ / ‘Breathe Deep’ show just how far the band have come, with Echo Lake’s songwriting growing in leaps and bounds. Swathes of guitars recall Smashing Pumpkins, yet the lo-fi production leaves the songs frayed around the edges.
Out now, fans had better act sharp with the seven inch expected to sell out very quickly. As a special bonus, ClashMusic have grabbed ‘Another Day’ to brighten up an overcast Tuesday. Expect cooing vocals, feedback drenched guitars and much, much more…
