“I’m telling everybody east London is back” spits MC Maxta on this gleaming track of the day.
He’s right as well, because tonight sees the weekly U:Music showcase gather again under the arches of our Dalston loft. James Endeacott and Raf Rundell’s 1965 Records will be presenting their very finest playing live on air, including Maxta himself, Scarlet Harlots and The Spivs.
1965 Records is brought to you by the man who signed The Strokes and The Libertines, and he’s not done too badly spotting Maxta either. ‘East London is Back’ is a grime tune which manages to rhyme ‘hard-drive’ with ‘Marmite’, and is so energetic it might just jump up and pop you one in the eye. And Maxta’s got a gift for production as well. The track is set to a weaving trance-like arpeggiator, a touch which sets him aside from the hordes of other grime hopefuls.
Catch it tonight from 7-9pm on U:Music. You’d be a fool not to.
