Leeds group Polo make dark, hallucinogenic pop music.
Absorbing some classic sounds – 90s R&B, Noughties alt-pop – the three-piece seem able to translate this into something potent and unique.
Breakout single 'Death Of Me' was a brash yet introspective opening gambit, matching clinical sounds to some raw lyricism.
New single 'Hula' has a dark heart, but it's a more polished, incisive release, with Polo amplifying the impact of their resolute pop approach.
A driving, surging return, 'Hula' balances the Leeds project's infectious energy with moments of biting melancholy.
Polo's Kat McHugh comments:
"'Hula' explores the line between fantasy and reality, through my experiences of a wild and unpredictable evening. I wrote the lyrics to this song after a surreal first encounter."
"The fun really started when we knew there were no trains back from where we were, and we would just have to see where the night took us."
