Bands like The Invisible really shouldn’t exist – at least, not in this day and age.
They’re a three piece from London. No doubt they have to travel around the city, crammed into subways or maybe switching onto the bus, shaking down endless streets. They probably sit amongst crowds of people who barely make eye constant, lost in near perpetual alienation.
Which is absurd. The Invisible make music which seems to thrive on human contact, which almost begs to be thrust into strangers’ hands saying: here, stuff this in your ear holes and put a smile on your face. If you don’t have recent album ‘Rispah’ in your collection yet, then maybe try new single ‘Generational’.
Distilling some of the various sonic themes and tones rippling through the album, the track finds The Invisible doing what they do best: the songwriting is crisp, the arrangement is unavoidably delicate and Dave Okumu’s voice is something quite special.
For the single release the band have commissioned a series of remixes, including one by that man Theo Parrish. As a bonus, ClashMusic have been given an unreleased re-working of ‘Generational’ courtesy of fellow London types Post War Years. A band who straddle the indie / electronics divide, Post War Years are allowed to hone in on the production.
Stretching, distorting The Invisible’s songwriting they seem to expose new facets, introducing fresh perceptions.
