Track Of The Day 10/5 – Male Bonding

London Indie Pop Newcomers

A vague and loose fitting moniker, ‘indie pop’ remains a devoutly British creation.

Postcard via Creation via Sarah.. the linage now leads somewhat bizarrely to Brooklyn. With groups such as Vivian Girls adding a little fuzz to their perfect pop, our American cousins have given indie pop a new lease of life.

Here in the UK, a new wave of bands are seeking to reclaim the genre as their own. Veronica Falls have released a handful of stunning singles, while London compatriots Male Bonding have decided to take on the Yanks on their own turf.

Signed to Sub Pop, the band’s debut album ‘Nothing Hurts’ is a stunning introduction. Loose and un-hinged, it matches vintage rock ‘n’ roll abandon with plenty of sighing harmonies and screeching guitars.

Out now, ClashMusic have grabbed album highlight ‘Year’s Not Long’ as a free download. Lasting just over two minutes, this is a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ introduction to the world of bowl cuts and distortion.
