Track Of The Day 10/3 – Max Pope

'Just Friends'

The moment Max Pope took hold of his own independence is the point his life – and his music – changed.

Seizing control, the songwriter began working to his own passions and desires, producing his best work in the process.

It's a simple equation, really – let people do what they want, and most often they'll respond in kind.

New single 'Just Friends' continues his journey, his relentless upward trajectory, blending some of Max Pope's catchiest melodies with lyrics that cut a little deeper.

Jonjo Lowe directs the video, and it's simple charms work perfectly with the songwriter's own creativity.

Max explains…

Working with Jonjo and Grace was a unique experience for me. I was a little out of my comfort zone and they were great.

I think we’ve created something quite broad which can be interpreted in various ways. Not specific to a ‘boy / girl relationship’ story. I wanted the video to be symbolic, rather than a literal translation of the words.

Jonjo Lowe adds:

A precarious joie de vivre at the threshold of love, where lines have been crossed and barriers broken. I wanted the video to explore the elation and fear that accompany new forms of intimacy.

It was amazing collaborating with Grace Nicol on the movement for this piece, bringing Max’s tentative, emotional tug-of-war to life.

Tune in now.
