It's incredibly tough to make music in London.
The time and expense alone turns any creative endeavour into a struggle, meaning that young musicians tend to cut corners.
Archivist leader Ed Begley opted to take on a guardianship in an abandoned school in Deptford, swapping comfort for cheaper rent.
Bringing his equipment with him, he set about crafting new electronic gems, with wildlife flirting in through the doorway. He explains:
“I was living in this crumbling old school in Deptford, without any heating or creature comforts save the mice… just writing the record. It was quite grim at times but at the same time I found hope there. I wanted to capture the idea that hope can be found in the darkest and seemingly most hopeless of places or situations if it needs to be”.
A uniquely London experience, new EP 'Memo' is shot through with a patient, affecting melancholy, one that lingers after the final note buzzes into silence.
Clash is able to premiere the video for 'Wild Hope', and it returns to this same school in Deptford.
