Northern Irish songwriter Kitt Philippa has a sense of touch that is both breathlessly light and devastatingly beautiful.
New single 'Fahrenheit' is sparse and evocative, but each aspect of their songwriting takes on an intense purpose.
Set to release their debut album 'Human' on October 11th, Kitt has also arranged a full London show, playing Dalston's Set Space on October 23rd.
As a preview, they have shot an intimate live performance of 'Fahrenheit', performing solo at the piano.
Stripped right down to the core, Kitt Philippa is able to tap into something rather more personal. Of the track itself, they comment:
"There's a heaviness in the lyrics, and an intensity to their delivery. The cross-section of the track probably reveals difficulty interacting with self and others, at times."
"Looking at thermometers to understand how something feels is relatively simple; I interchanged the language to maybe try to view things in an easier way. It is a busy track with a lot of layers and intersections. I very much see all the individual parts like components of a greater structure – they have their own characters – but how they work together interested me."
This new live version in simple but strikingly effective, each note hammering home with brutal force. Kitt continues:
"The studio recorded version of 'Fahrenheit' has many sounds interacting with each other. For this live version of 'Fahrenheit', I distilled the essence of the parts into piano and voice, offering a more intimate portrait of the track."
"The video was captured in a room, situated in Belfast's city centre, by a local filmmaker; it is great to be able to share content made within the city."
