Track By Track: Heart People – ‘Homecoming’ EP

A guide to the warm embrace of their new EP...

Australian duo Heart People are difficult to pin down.

Forward-thinking pop music that fuses whimsical notions with devastating emotion, the pair's music allow indie, electronics, and more to intermingle.

As the band themselves put it: "Heart People is a feeling. It’s about listening, hearing, and allowing that whisper to be a part of you, no matter if you think you are the only one.

It’s a piece of the bigger whole, a love note from the world. Feel it." New EP 'Homecoming' is out now, and it should be the point where the rest of the world catches up to what our friends in Australia already know: there's something special about Heart People.

'Homecoming'
Home is the place, home is the dance. Dance with me now, take me! We celebrate music touching our most intuitive and universal point of self expression: dance. Industrial, experimental sounds amongst repetitive percussion and the positive sentiment of the song was just a very interesting combination for us. Some bitter amongst the sweet and vice versa is always better and more realistic.

'Show You'
How far in love before you’re out of touch? Lost in love or lost in doubt? Very real questions the both of us have had to tackle, as I’m sure have many others out there. We wanted to put it into a stark but (hopefully) beautiful song.

'Voices'
We wanted to look outside the box, sustain thinking outside of the day to day… what we expect to happen… what is defined by “logic”. Maybe there is more, somewhere you have never looked before. Inspired by 80’s new romantics, Ibiza. We almost left this song off the EP so many times but it found it’s way back on and we’re very happy it did in the end.

'Oceans'
Communication is as simple as yearning. Our most wild or quiet dreams are strong enough to bring us together, as long as we stay true. This song was a real exploration in writing for us as we wrote it together from start to end and focussed on the voice and letting it shine through while the music took a back seat. Ryan will always want to mix it again and one day will!

'Feel It'
The power of unseen phenomenon can often be overlooked, but if we listen closely, let our hairs stand up, honour it, we might just be in for the ride of our lives.

'Wonderful Light'
The song speaks for itself, really. We sat across from each other and closed our eyes and it just came out. It is the only recording we made after the demo, on the same day we wrote it, and we never felt that it needed to be changed.
