Tortoise Return

New material from seminal Chicago group

One of the most heralded names in modern American rock music Tortoise are due to return with their first new album of new material in five years.

There are few bands with the gravitas of Tortoise. The Chicago group formed in the late 80s, a group of musicians unhappy with the restrictions of rock music at the time. Reaching back towards Krautrock and forwards to new electronic styles, the music Tortoise created sounded like nothing else around at the time.

Quickly garnering a rabid fanbase, the group have become one of the most influential in America today. Arguably giving birth to the post-rock genre (although fans of Slint would debate that ) the group’s second album ‘Millions Now Living Will Never Die’ has been widely hailed as a masterpiece.

Creatively, the group operate at their own pace side-stepping fans and critics alike. Since 2004’s ‘It’s All Around You’ the band have taken their time working on new material. A covers album – ‘The Brave And The Bold’ – followed alongside a box set of rarities and live recordings.

Their ever fluid music continued to evolve, however. New album ‘Beacons Of Ancestorship’ is the band’s sixth full length collection of original material, and moves between techno, punk, progressive rock and a whole lot more.

Released through Tortoise’s long term home of Thrill Jockey, ‘Beacons Of Ancestorship’ sees the long awaited return of one of American rock’s guiding lights.

Tortoise are due to release their new album ‘Beacons Of Ancestorship’ on June 22nd. Tracklisting is as follows:
