Toro Y Moi Unveils New Project

Les Sins 12 inch due

Toro Y Moi has unveiled a new techno driven 12 inch under his alter ego Les Sins.

Real name Chaz Bundwick, Toro Y Moi began crafting electronic music in his bedroom. Leaking out onto the internet, his fuzzy, slowed down tales of nostalgia soon won a cult following.

Part of the chillwave genre, Toro Y Moi has been typecast as making a certain type of music. However the producer has chafed against this, working with acoustic instruments as well as more straight ahead dance material.

Using the name ‘Les Sins’ the producer is beginning to release his more techno influenced tracks. The French inspired moniker will be used on a forthcoming 12 inch, released through Carpark.

Les Sins are responsible for ‘Lina / Youth Gone’ with both tracks becoming something of a departure for the producer. “I wanted to start making dance music to see if I could do it” the producer told ClashMusic earlier this year.

“I love all house music and electronic music styles and I just want to something like that, that’s my own.”

Asked about his new material, Toro Y Moi explained that it will be drastically different from the chillwave sound. “Well the big difference is that the next album isn’t electronic. I wanted to see if I could make songs similar to what I’ve been doing but without being electronically altered. But it’s a different sound over all I think.”

Meanwhile, the producer has confirmed a series of British tour dates. Toro Y Moi is set to accompany Foals on their upcoming dates, including some of the largest shows the producer has taken on yet.

Toro Y Moi has confirmed the following shows:

October
18 Cardiff Arts Institute
19 London Cargo
29 Leeds Academy
30 Manchester Academy
31 Edinburgh Academy

November
2 Glasgow Academy
3 Birmingham Academy
