Toro Y Moi Confirms Second Album

'Under The Pines' due next year

Toro Y Moi is set to release his second album ‘Under The Pines’ on Carpark early next year.

Real name Chaz Bundick, Toro Y Moi emerged almost fully formed from South Carolina. Part of the so-called ‘chillwave’ movement, his music evoked a certain nostalgia for lost youth and – in particular – for the 90s.

Spreading across the internet, Toro Y Moi was able to get his music heard. Signing to New York based label Carpark, the producer’s debut album ‘Causers Of This’ has sparked numerous imitators.

Keeping ahead of the pack, Toro Y Moi launched a new dancefloor alter ego. Les Sins have released a string of 12 inches, while Chaz Bundick has also been quietly working on an acoustic second album.

Toro Y Moi will release ‘Under The Pines’ through Carpark next year. Speaking to ClashMusic recently, the producer explained that his new material moves away from his roots in electronic music.

“Well the big difference is that the next album isn’t electronic. I wanted to see if I could make
songs similar to what i’ve been doing but without being electronically altered. But it’s a
different sound over all I think.”

Continuing, the producer said: “When you record electronically you are literally writing and recording at the same time. But for a lot of this album I record the parts, look at the wav file, and that’s it. I want it to remain the way I recorded to preserve character and to be true to the process.”

Due to be released in February, ‘Under The Pines’ comes almost a year after his debut album. Will the new acoustic grooves match the near universal appeal of ‘Causers Of This’? Wait and see…
