Tony Christie On Arctic Monkeys

Crooner Celebrates Indie Giants

Legendary 60s crooner Tony Christie has spoken about covering Arctic Monkeys on his forthcoming album, and has revealed that he is a massive fan of the Sheffield band.

The Northern singer has become a cult figure in recent years, scoring a massive hit with the re-release of his track ‘Is This The Way (To Amarillo)?’. Now the star has recorded an album with some very contemporary figures, including Richard Hawley and Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker.

In a new interview Christie has revealed what made him chose to cover the Arctic Monkeys’ song ‘Only The Ones Who Know’ on his new album ‘Made In Sheffield’.

“The reason I like the Monkeys is because they take me back to the 60’s,” he said. “It’s very like that 60’s scene, The Beatles and all that. It reminds me of that and of a time when I was kicking off in the business. So it’s a bit retro but great.”

Tony Christie will release his new album ‘Made In Sheffield’ on November 11th.
