Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has unveiled a new group named Street Sweeper.
A founder member of the incendiary group, Morello has played with Rage Against The Machine at every live date since their reformation in 2007. The band have previously stated that they will not release new material.
Politically active, Morello has also released acoustic recordings under the name The Nightwatchman, while he also contributed to Audioslave. The new group sees the metal icon team up with Boots Riley of hip hop group The Coup.
The Coup have recently completed their debut album, and are set to tour the United States with Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction. The much discussed tour will be the final act by Nine Inch Nails before going on hiatus.
In a statement Morello claims the new group’s sound will feature “huge steamroller riffs combined with depth, charge, funk.”
Hip hop star Riley says “this is a time when the working class is being fleeced left and right. More families will be homeless and more people will be jobless. They’ll need something to listen to on their iPods while storming Wall Street.”
Wait a minute… homeless people with iPods? Why didn’t they sell them?
Street Sweeper are currently streaming their new track ‘Fight! Smash! Win!’ on their official website.
