Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has given his support to the campaign to send his band to number one.
Rage Against The Machine were one of the most incendiary acts of their generation. Led by Zack De La Rocha the band combined stunning metal riffs with politically outspoken lyrics that took aim at the United States hierarchy.
Splitting in 2000, guitarist Tom Morello went on to find fame with Audioslave before embarking on his own solo venture as The Nightwatchman. Recently embarking on another side project in the form of Street Sweeper Social Club, the guitarist could be swept into the charts this Christmas.
A fan campaign has launched Rage Against The Machine into a chart battle with X Factor winner Joe McElderry. According to recent figures, the rap metal group’s track ‘Killing In The Name’ is heading for Christmas number one.
However all that could still change. Joe McElderry’s track has yet to receive a physical release which becomes available tomorrow (December 16th). Last year a similar campaign to propel Jeff Buckley to number one faltered after X Factor winner Alexandra Burke received a physical release.
Now Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello has spoken out on the campaign. “Rage’s ‘Killing In The Name’ & The X Factor’s goofy Christmas single are neck and neck for num one spot on UK chart,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
“England! Now is your time.”
The Christmas number one will be announced on Sunday (December 20th).
