Tkay Maidza returns with potent new single ‘Silent Assassin’.
The Zimbawean-born, Australia-raised all-rounder is back, plotting new material and a string of live performances. Now based in LA, she returns to Australia for a high profile set at Splendour In The Grass next month, before supporting the one-and-only Lizzo.
New single ‘Silent Assassin’ opens with murky electronic ambience, before snapping into a barbed piece of rap digitalism. Flume handles production, and his deft, EDM saturated approach is the perfect foil for Tkay’s intense word play.
Handling the mic with a physical sense of connection, Tkay Maidza intones a song that focusses on self-empowerment, and self-confidence. Tearing down the barriers around her, it comes equipped with a startling Milo Lee-directed video.
Tkay Maidza comments…
I like to move in silence, but this song is a reminder that people shouldn’t count me out or underestimate my abilities; they should be afraid when I’m quiet as I come back more evolved.
I’ve always wanted to work with Flume and was immediately ecstatic when he played the instrumental for this; I wanted to channel Busta Rhymes and Missy Elliot.”
Tune in now.
