Salford’s pop-tastic duo The Ting Tings have told fans of their intention to record their second album in Berlin.
The Ting Tings swept aside all competition last year. Formed in Salford, the pair’s pop touch sent singles such as ‘That’s Not My Name’ soaring up the charts. Debut album ‘We Started Nothing’ followed, swiftly racing to number one.
Later expanded to include bonus material, the group recently announced another massive UK tour. Named the ‘Pink Tour’ The Ting Tings will be joined by New Zealand electro popper Ladyhawke for a series of dates.
Earning a clutch of nominations at the Brit Awards, The Ting Tings were invited to perform at the event capping an astonishing year for the band. Touring heavily, the band signalled to fans that they might have to wait for new material.
However in a new interview the band reveal that they have begun to lay the groundwork for their second album. The Ting Tings had previously stated their intention to work in Berlin, but have now revealed much more of their plans.
“We fell in love with Berlin the times we’ve played there… we go there in October when we finish the Pink tour,” drummer-vocalist Jules De Martino told BBC Radio 1 Newsbeat.
Explaining further, the band claim to have discovered an abandoned jazz club. Admiring the acoustics and ambience of the venue, The Ting Tings want to convert the room into a new studio.
“We’re gonna do the same in Berlin – that’s why we’ve got the jazz club – so we can just stick a big plastic bag over the studio so it doesn’t get beer on and experiment on some crazy Berliners” claimed singer Katie White.
The singer also claimed that they would use the venue to test out new material. “We did the first album by throwing house parties, we’d try them out on our drunk friends and if they danced we’d go ‘Great, let’s carry on!’,” stated.
The Ting Tings also confirmed that they have yet to finish any new material for the album, although they do have plenty of ideas.
The Ting Tings are due to begin recording their second album this year.
