Tim Burgess Working On Solo Album

With The Horrors, Ladyhawke and more

The Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess is working on solo material with The Horrors, Ladyhawke and more.

The Charlatans are British indie’s great survivors. The band lost original member Rob Collins back in 1995, but recovered to become one of the defining groups of the Britpop era scoring several massive hits.

The band recently returned with their new album, which harked back to their roots. The Charlatans blend Motown rhythms with punk noise, all with a Hammond wash for that extra authenticity.

Touring across the UK, it seems that singer Tim Burgess has managed to find time to begin work on a solo album. The frontman has gone solo before, with 2003’s ‘I Believe’ set delighting fans.

However on his new material Tim Burgess has found some illustrious company. Speaking to Spinner the singer explained that: “I’ve been working with Josh (Hayward), the guitarist from The Horrors and Stefan (Halperin), the drummer from the Klaxons,” he said.

“Right now we can only do stuff when our other bands aren’t doing things, but when we do get together, it’s really explosive and it’ll be well worth waiting for.”

Tim Burgess is set to release the new material early next year, with Ladyhawke also amongst the guest performers. “Musically, it’s going to sound like all of our bands put together,” he explained.

“It’ll definitely be different from my first solo album because I made that with session musicians from Los Angeles and this is being made with people from New Zealand and London. It’ll have a European flavour with a New Zealand twist.”

With new album ‘Who We Touch’ freshly released, The Charlatans have embarked on a new British tour. The dates open in Hatfield before continuing around the country, with the final show taking place in Birmingham on October 23rd.
