Three Injured At Elton John Show

Stage collapse in Mexico

Three workers have been injured after a stage collapsed shortly before a show by singer Elton John.

After decades of bizarre costumes and diva like behaviour, Elton John seems to be entering his more mature years with some grace.

The star’s touring schedule is ever increasing, with Elton John currently completing a number of enormous shows across Latin and North America.

However the singer’s show in Mexico was almost called off after an accident injured three stage workers. Taking place at the Chichen Itza ruins the accident on Wednesday (March 31st) de-railed attempts to put on the show.

A partial stage collapse injured three workers – two with slight injuries and a third with a broken leg.

The accident happened after lighting rigs collapsing during construction. Falling onto the stage area, the construction then collapsed under the pressure of the rig.

However Elton John has never been one to call off a show lightly. The crew re-doubled their efforts with the vast Mexican show going ahead as planned on Saturday (April 3rd) with thousands of fans converging on Chichen Itza.

The show was a huge success, with Elton John travelling on to the United States where he has ten additional dates scheduled.

Sir Elton was in London this week, reports BBC News to mark the fifth anniversary of West End musical Billy Elliot – for which he composed the score.
