Three Disc Rough Trade Compilation Incoming

Spanning both generations of the label...

Founded in 1978, Rough Trade quickly emerged – almost by accident, really – as one of the post-punk era’s pre-eminent labels.

Signing the likes of Young Marble Giants, The Fall, Scritti Politti and countless others, the label provided a home for bedroom geniuses across the land.

Sadly entering receivership in 1991, Rough Trade was re-born in the late 90s, releasing new material once more from 2001.

This time round, the imprint would help to define a further indie boom, snapping up The Strokes, The Libertines, Arcade Fire (for debut album ‘Funeral’) and more.

Now Rough Trade Shops (a separate entity, commercially speaking) are set to bring you a three disco retrospective which brings together some of the label's finest moments. There is little point in listing the highlights – this is simply an all-killer and no filler compilation which will no doubt act as a fine introduction, if needed, to one of the UK’s most continually thrilling musical forces.

With tracks selected by the label's Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee and Rough Trade Shops' Nigel House, Pete Donne, Sean Forbes and Simon Russell, ‘Recorded At The Laundromat – The Best Of Rough Trade Records’ will be released on March 23rd (note – a single CD and double LP version will also be made available).
