Radiohead singer Thom Yorke has posted a special playlist to coincide with the British general election.
With all its faults, Britain is a (largely) fair and democratic society. Once every four years the nation takes to the polls to decide its leader, with the latest election coming at a critical time for the world economy.
Whether its MPs abusing the system, increased immigration or the damn dog next dog – if you have something in your life which you feel strongly about please make a difference by heading down to the polling station and placing your vote.
Thom Yorke knows the value of a democratic system, with the outspoken singer recently travelling to a global warming conference in Copenhagen. Lambasting world leaders for their failure to act, the singer has now reacted furiously to the ongoing oil spill in the Caribbean.
Taking place on an oil field owned by BP, the news comes as the firm announces huge profits. Writing on the Radiohead blog Dead Air Space the singer seemed exasperated:
“maaan
shouldn’t BP be held criminally responsible for the oil slick?
shouldn’t the heads of BP be held to account?
this is not just a accident. this is a terrible crime.
record profits? nice.”
Elsewhere, Thom Yorke posted an election playlist. Typically varied, it mixes PJ Harvey with AFX and Bach. Signed “an old git” the list is a wonderfully downbeat salute to what could become an historic day:
1. The Lunatics(Have taken over the Asylum) by Fun Boy Three
2. Splitting the Atom by Massive Attack
3. Les Folies Françaises by Matmos
4. Sticky Situation(Toddla T & Seiji Mix) by Lady Chan
5. Veni vidi vici (Diplo rmx) by Black Lips
6. Mass in B Minor BWV 232, Credo: Chorus: Et Incarnatus Est Bach Mass in B minor by Münchner Philharmoniker & Sergiu Celibidache
7. Into Dust by Mazzy Star
8. My Beautiful Leah by Pj Harvey
9. Analogue Talk(Claknib) by AFX
10. Backdoor. Spyboter.A by AFX
