Legendary British rockers The Who have stormed the Superbowl half-time show, playing a medley of hits.
The Who are one of the most iconic groups in British rock history. Smashing guitars, naughty drummers and anthemic stadium filling hits are the order of the day, with the band’s back catalogue bulging with classics.
Chosen to perform at this year’s Superbowl concert, The Who’s Roger Daltrey revealed beforehand that he was dubious as to the importance of the performance.
“It’s a strange one,” Daltrey told the NME. “It’s an honour to do it, but it’s only 12 minutes! It’s kind of weird! I suppose it gives people time to take a slash and that’s about it. That’s what you do at half-time isn’t it?! You plan your toilet break!”
“It’ll be an experience, and it is an amazing game” he continued. “You know, I’m a soccer fan, and we have rugby of course, but American football is an incredibly skilled game too. It’s going to be an experience.”
In the end, however, the show was a triumph. Opening with their classic track ‘Pinball Wizard’ The Who stormed through a series of hits. With Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend on fine form, the pair rattled through their set.
Committed to just 12 minutes, the band played many shortened versions of tracks alongside hit filled medleys. With fireworks and a spectacular stage set, The Who seemed as vital as ever with Pete Townshend putting his windmill guitar technique to good use.
Broadcast to millions across the globe, the performance is now available to play as a ‘RockBand’ add on. The Who released the segment immediately after the performance ended, allowing fans to rock the ‘Superbowl’ in the comfort of their own home.
