The Who Praise Jade Goody

Roger Daltrey hails 'courage'

Dying star Jade Goody’s battle against cancer has been praised by lead singer of The Who Roger Daltrey.

Goody sprang to fame after an appearance in the reality TV show Big Brother. The young woman initially caused consternation in the tabloid press with some near the knuckle antics, and comments on a recent celebrity version of the show lead to accusations of racism.

However, there are few who can fail to have been moved by Goody’s battle against cancer. Aged just 27 the young mother has been given months to live.

The Who’s Roger Daltrey hailed the star’s bravery, telling Andrew Marr “what courage the girl has shown. I think it’s been really helpful that she’s done what she’s done and people have seen it”.

“I know she gets criticised for it – I don’t criticise her at all. I admire her for what she’s done.”

Daltrey added: “I think it’s there’s also a lot to be learnt that we shouldn’t fear cancer as much as we do. The psychological well-being is so important. There’s much more success now in curing it.”

Roger Daltrey is a well known fundraiser to the Teenage Cancer Trust, organising annual shows in the Royal Albert Hall.
