The Who On Keith Moon

Daltrey Talks About Late Drummer

Legendary frontman of The Who Roger Daltrey has spoken about the band’s late drummer Keith Moon, ahead of the release of new DVD ‘The Who: At Kilburn 1977’ on November 17th.

The drummer died in 1978, after years of famously hard living. The original rock ‘n’ roll hell raiser, he once drove a new Rolls Royce into a swimming pool and invented the hobby of trashing hotel rooms. With extra-curricular activities like those it’s a wonder that he found time to become one of rock music’s greatest ever musicians.

Daltrey claims he won’t be watching the DVD however. “I haven’t seen it, and I never will,” says Daltrey. “I don’t look back. What’s done is done. Maybe when I’m old and laying at home with Alzheimer’s, I’ll go ‘Well, this is a very interesting band …’ ”

The singer told US magazine Rolling Stone that “his (Moon’s) drinking problem got the better of him. He wasn’t at his best. So it was a very tricky time in that sense. But even Keith Moon at his worst was amazing. You can’t keep a drummer out of work. They have to drum. You have to get that energy out.”

‘The Who: At Kilburn 1977’ will be released on November 17th.
