Jack White has given strong hints that The White Stripes could be set to record a new album.
The White Stripes were one of the most influential guitar groups spawned by the previous decade, but have lain dormant for some time. Since ‘Icky Thump’ in 2007 the duo have rarely appeared in public together.
Drummer Meg White required time off, after a heavy touring schedule left her exhausted. Meanwhile, Jack White has become a globe trotting guitar slinger, playing in The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, amongst others.
However rumours are growing surrounding the possibility of a new White Stripes album. Meg White married earlier this year, with the pair also making an appearance on Conan O’Brien’s final instalment of the Tonight show.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Jack White admitted that the time could be right for the pair to head back into the studio. “We thought we’d do a lot of things that we’d never done: a full tour of Canada, a documentary, coffee table book, live album, a boxset,” he explained.
“It was one long project that took almost three years.”
Continuing, the guitarist explained that these projects gave The White Stripes space to write new material. “Now that we’ve gotten a lot of that out of our system, Meg and I can get back in the studio and start fresh.”
The statement follows several interviews from Jack White, in which he remained hopeful of the group returning to the studio in the near future.
Elsewhere, The White Stripes have confirmed the release of a new record player and box set. Released on Third Man, the record player has been designed by Jack White with the vinyl box set containing a slew of unreleased material.
The catch? It costs $499. Released in time for Christmas, the box set and record player will be available in extremely limited quantities.
