The Wedding Present are set to return next year with a new album and a series of tour dates.
With the rise of scratchy, thoughtful indie pop hopefully The Wedding Present will finally get their due. Led by David Gedge, the Leeds outfit’s back catalogue contains some beautiful moments with the songwriter’s sharp wit and romantic streak coming to the fore.
Working on new material, The Wedding Present have confirmed that they are set to release their eighth studio album next year. Recorded in the rather glamorous climes of France and California – is this really The Wedding Present we’re talking about?! – sessions were mixed by Andrew Scheps.
Provisionally due to be released in March, the new album is the band’s first since 2008’s ‘El Rey’. To celebrate, The Wedding Present will jet out to SXSW before beginning a full tour of North America.
As a special bonus for fans, the band will be playing their 1991 album ‘Seamonsters’ in its entirety. Recorded by Steve Albini, the record remains a milestone for The Wedding Present – quickly checking Wikipedia, it apparently reached the heady heights of number 13.
Taking the album around North America and Europe, the band will come home this Autumn to perform ‘Seamonsters’ in front of British fans.
For now, though, The Wedding Present will see out the year with some intimate British shows. Confirming three dates, the “Seeing Out 2011 With The Wedding Present” mini-tour tackles venues in Glasgow, Leeds and London.
All this despite David Gedge recently admitting: “I never really enjoy New Year’s Eve!”
The Wedding Present are set to play the following shows:
December
29 Glasgow Garage
30 Leeds O2 Academy
31 London Dingwalls
