English indie heroes The Wave Pictures are to release their new EP ‘Sweetheart’ later this year.
Formed at the start of the Millennium, The Wave Pictures seem to write songs as easily as some bands blow studio budgets. The group’s discography is vast, taking in both full scale albums and one off singles.
Returning this year with their new album ‘Susan Rode The Cyclone’ the release marks the band’s fourth full length effort in just two years. Recently working with members of Herman Dune, The Wave Pictures are set to focus on their own career once more.
Released later this year, ‘Sweetheart’ is a new EP which focusses on love and romance. Typical of the band, the material is rich in observation with the frequently confessional lyrics dominated by an acerbic sense of humour.
Containing just six tracks, the EP is a bite sized document which stands as a great introduction into the imagination of The Wave Pictures. The trio have shrouded their songwriting in a warm crackle, resulting in one of their most coherent statements yet.
Due for release on June 7th, The Wave Pictures are set to spend summer on the road. Touring throughout Europe, the trio will play a show at London’s Bush Hall on June 16th before hitting the festival trail.
Set to play Lounge On The Farm, Summer Sundae Weekender and The Green Man the group will mix new material with some fan favourites.
Currently on tour in Germany, the hard working band will open their festival account on May 27th with a performance at Spain’s Primavera Festival before heading to Italy at the start of June.
