Philadelphia’s alt rock dons The War On Drugs have re-organized their British tour, fresh from the news that The Hold Steady – who they were due to support – have cancelled all British dates.
With soaring guitar and keening vocals, The War On Drugs boast all the ingredients of a classic band but with one fatal exception – they’re not boring. New album ‘Wagonwheel Blues’ is a hugely enjoyable romp through some well heeled influences, but with a fresh take on a well known sound.
Recalling Sonic Youth when they began digging out their Creedence records, or even a slightly unhinged Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, The War On Drugs are one of the most unique exports from the US in a long time.
The new tour represents wonderful chance to catch this awesome live band in their natural environment. Also on the bill at the London, Borderline date are two of Canada’s finest young talents – Ladyhawk (yep, no ‘e’ so you’re not getting the Antipodean electro minx) and ace slacker types The Dudes. You there, dude? Totally, dude.
The War On The Drugs are set to play the following UK dates:
September 30th – London, Dublin Castle
October 1st – London, Borderline
October 2nd – London, Pure Groove
October 2nd – Bloomsbury Bowling Alley
October 3rd – Norwich, Arts Centre
October 4th – Bristol, The Louisiana
October 7th – London, The Windmill
