The Wants seem to tap into something truly subterranean, a mixture of thoughts, feelings, and sounds not often glimpsed in the light of day.
The three-piece have spent years working from ad hoc studios, patching together elements of post-punk and early industrial into an intense, focussed blast of noise.
Debut album 'Container' – named after the shipping container which houses their DIY studio – lands on March 13th, ushered out into the waiting world by Council Records.
A flurry of UK shows have been arranged, with The Wants now sharing brutal new song 'The Motor'.
It's a song that channels a palpable sense of unease, a song that moved from being a growling instrumental into something more.
A long-time live favourite, The Wants' Madison Velding-VanDam explains that lyrically it draws influence from the introduction of Lost Highway by David Lynch.
"In it, racing pavement reveals only level white dotted lines shrouded in darkness as David Bowie croons his sinister, 90s industrial art-rock masterpiece, 'I’m Deranged'."
"Taking elements from this, alongside a general feeling of unstoppable locomotion, we arrived at something that captures a mood somewhere between Cybotron's 'Cosmic Cars', Kraftwerk's 'Autobahn', and Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer'."
Tune in now.
