Lead singer of The View Kyle Falconer went back to his roots last night with a surprise support slot with Babyshambles at the Birxton Mass venue.
The singer took to the stage after a short introduction from Babyshambles bassist Drew McConnell, and played an eight-song set which found room for a run through Oasis’ “Don’t Look Back In Anger” as well as hits such as “Same Jeans”.
Kyle’s first musical experience, of course, was playing covers round his local pubs in Dundee – notably the The Bayview, from which the band took their name. The View are currently putting the finishing touches to their second album with super producer Owen Morris – in a freak coincidence, Morris also produced the original Oasis version of “Don’t Look Back In Anger”.
Babyshambles, meanwhile, looked the healthiest they’ve been in a while, ploughing through an energetic set that found room for rarities such as former B-side “The Man Who Came To Stay” alongside classics such as “Pipedown”.
Babyshambles will play a further gig at Brixton Mass tonight (June 19th). The View’s second album is scheduled for Autumn.
