Comeback kings of Britpop The Verve have gone straight to the top of the UK charts with their new album “Forth”, it has been announced.
The band’s last album “Urban Hymns” was released in 1997 and became a modern classic. Containing the seminal single “Bittersweet Symphony” it enshrined The Verve’s position as one of the most important bands in UK music.
Their acrimonious split in 1999 was thought to have ended one of British music’s most endearing success stories, and their re-union last year was greeted with rapturous acclaim by their fans.
“Forth” was preceded by the Top 5 single “Love Is Noise” as the band played a succession of stunning performances at festivals this summer, including both Glastonbury and T In The Park.
“Forth” by The Verve is available now.
