The Vaccines Launch New Album ‘Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations’

It's out on January 12th...

The Vaccines will release new album ‘Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations’ on January 12th.

The album is the band’s sixth to date, and finds The Vaccines at a key point in their evolution. The title is a mis-heard lyrics from Don MacLean’s classic ‘American Pie’, and relates to a broader feeling of ennui within the group.

Singer Justin Young wrote the material during a spell in Los Angeles, and a feeling that his time there was perhaps coming to an end. He comments:

Justin Young, “I was living in LA while writing this record, and  American Pie is a song about disillusionment with America and the American dream, and his feeling that something had died. I guess I was coming to terms with similar things – my understanding of what the real West Coast of America was, after growing up on a diet of American pop culture. That was all coming to a head as various relationships were ending. That was the seed of it. It’s about the loss of dreams.”

Built alongside producer Andrew Wells, the final mix comes from esteemed studio boffin Dave Fridmann. A full UK tour is planned for early next year, with ‘Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations’ set to be released on January 12th.

New single ‘Heartbreak Kid’ digs into the band’s bedrock, a pulsating dose of indie pop thrills that embodies their ultra-colourful live energy. Justin Young calls the song “a call to arms”, continuing:

“There are two types of people in the world – people that have had their heart broken and people that haven’t had their heart broken yet. ‘Heartbreak Kid’ is a call to arms. A reminder that in a world where too many of us feel too detached too often, facing your feelings head on can make you feel more alive, even if it feels like the world is ending. It’s a song to keep you company on the busy freeway that connects loss to discovery.”

Tune in now.
