The Vaccines / Adele Chart Battle

Two acts go toe to toe

The Vaccines are pushing Adele all the way in the latest battle on the albums chart.

Breaking out late last year, The Vaccines vowed to put guitar music back in the mainstream. At a time when sales of rock music were at an all time low, this was no easy boast with even large acts struggling to make an impact.

Somehow, The Vaccines could well have succeeded. A series of tour dates have seen the band become hot property, with their recent single ‘Post Break-Up Sex’ breaking into the Top 40.

Preparing for another nationwide tour, The Vaccines released their debut album on Monday. ‘What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?’ sparked a frenzy amongst fans, pushing the album into the charts.

Roaring into the Top Ten, The Vaccines are now going toe to toe with Adele. The soulful singer has dominated the charts since her appearance at the BRITs, breaking down during a performance of ‘Someone Like You’.

New album ’21’ has remained at the top of the charts ever since, with the record also demolishing competition in the United States. A Transatlantic number one, The Vaccines aim to end her run.

‘What Did You Expect From The Vaccines?’ sits at number two, with the weekend sales still to be counted. There’s a long way to go, with the controversial indie rockers aiming to knock Adele off her perch.

Guitar music could make a sizeable impact on the Top Ten this Sunday (March 20th) with Beady Eye and The View both expected to remain in the upper echelons of the charts.

Meanwhile, the singer has lost her grip on the singles chart. The mid-week number one is Nicole Scherzinger while The Wanted are at number two.

Adele’s BRIT award performance of ‘Someone Like You’ has slid from pole position, lingering at number three on the charts.

However there’s a long way to go yet…
