The Umbrellas have shared new jewel ‘Gone’.
The band’s self-titled debut album was a word-of-mouth success, melting together pristine indie pop tropes with no small degree of verve and invention. Follow-up ‘Fairweather Friend’ lands on January 26th and it’s a delight – amplifying the promise of their introductory statement, it finds the San Francisco band moving with real precision.
Take new single ‘Gone’. Out now, it’s a perfectly formed indie pop gem, recalling Sarah Records greats – think those seminal Blueboy seven inches – while also digging down into its own voice.
Packed with energy, ‘Gone’ is about pushing yourself out of a rut, and learning to embrace life in its totality. An inspired slice of guitar-driven power pop, The Umbrellas explain…
‘Gone’ talks about feeling stuck on trivial matters and chasing escapism to cope, even though you might not know what you’re looking for/what will help you yet.
The song never really finds an answer to the question of what to do when you’re feeling stuck, but it does build some acceptance of the feeling, making the ‘rut’ feel all the more human and universal. We’re excited to add this song to our live set, since it’s one of our more power-pop songs and we think it really highlights Keith’s heroic drumming stylings and Matt/Morgan’s duo harmonious vocals.
Tune in now.
