The Strokes singer Julian Casablancas has revealed that the band have completed their new album.
It’s been a long time coming. The Strokes released ‘First Impressions Of Earth’ back in 2005, setting of around the world on a massive tour. Tiring of the pressures caused by the road, the band decided to take a short break.
Five long years later fans are still waiting for a follow up. Three members have formed solo projects, with Julian Casablancas taking his material on the road for a series of performances this summer.
But it still wasn’t as good as the real thing. Surrounded in rumour, The Strokes decided to head back into the studio earlier this year. Sessions have been protracted, with band members unsure how to continue.
In March the singer told fans that he was recording vocals alone, in order to get away from the interference of his band mates.
Now they seem to be close to completing the new album. The Strokes are at the mixing stage of their new record, with frontman Julian Casablancas giving fans a progress update on his Twitter page.
“(The album is) still not going to be out for a few months – mixing, etc,” he wrote. “But just finally finished it, yesterday actually.”
Finished on Monday (November 15th) the new material is the band’s first in some five years. The band played a series of festival shows this summer, including a climactic slot at Scotland’s RockNess.
Producer Joe Chiccarelli helmed sessions, having previously worked with U2, Beck and Icelandic singer Bjork.
The Strokes are set to release their new album in 2011.
