Mike Skinner and The Music’s Rob Harvey have unveiled their new project The D.O.T.
In a funny sort of way, it feels like the end of an era. The Streets released one of the decade’s defining albums, with ‘Original Pirate Material’ matching garage beats to a uniquely affecting sense of homespun wisdom.
The Music, meanwhile, had rather less critical acclaim. The Leeds’ based band enjoyed massive popular success, though, capable to touring in massive venues particularly in the North of England and Scotland.
However both acts have now called it quits. The Music played their final show in Leeds this summer, with The Streets planning to dis-band after the release of their fifth album ‘Computers and Blues’.
Fans have been left in mourning, but in a surprising move it seems that new music could emerge quite soon. Mike Skinner and Rob Harvey have teamed up to form The D.O.T. with new cuts streaming online now.
The pair seemingly began writing session earlier this year, although this is far from the first time the two have teamed up. On last year’s album ‘Computers and Blues’ The Streets were joined by Rob Harvey for several tracks, resulting in ‘Going Through Hell’, ‘Soldiers’ and ‘We Can Never Be Friends’.
No word of a release date as yet, although The D.O.T. have launched a new website. Containing several tracks and stand alone videos, the pair seem to be simply having fun making music.
Many of the songs paraphrase classic track, with the videos simply featuring two friends larking about.
