The Shins Ditch Label

Group To Self-Release New LP

Celebrated US group The Shins are set cut their ties with Sub Pop and self-release their next album, it has been announced.

The Seattle based label Sub Pop has been the group’s home for three albums, with their last effort – 2007’s “Wincing The Night Away” – hitting number two on the Billboard chart. The Shins seem to be eager for some independence, however the band may still remain connected to the label via a distribution deal, in a similar manner to how British group Oasis release their albums.

The group are apparently unsure about their next step, but are keen to celebrate Sub Pop’s achievement in breaking the band. Currently recording their fourth album, these are interesting times for The Shins and the industry as a whole – the group have sold over 1.5 million albums in the US alone.

The Shins are currently working on their fourth album.
