Cult duo The Shellers have shared new single ‘Work No More’.
The duo have built their following the old fashioned way, eschewing social media for some IRL encounters. Playing over 30 club shows in less than a year, The Shellers have exposed their sound to crowds across the land, gaining a dogged fanbase in the process.
Now it’s time for their debut single. ‘Work No More’ has a real urgency to it, the snappy rhythm overseen by producer Toddla T.
Lawaun Bernard and vocalist/songwriter Jamal Bucanon combine to craft the song, melding live instrumentation with their deep love of system culture. What emerges is a carnival sizzler, a zesty piece of underground pop music with a summer feel.
Speaking on the song’s construction, Toddla T says: “Working with The Shellers was a joy. We share a lot of musical influences, and it pushed me further. From not only an art point of view but from a friendship point of view, it was all rewarding”.
Jamal takes up the reins: “When you take three trains to get work you come to the realisation WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND wants to go to work everyday for someone else and earn a minimum amount, to just be a number, who wants to do that right? The song speaks to those who have goals and dreams of another life while holding down a job they don’t want to be in, something we can all relate to.”
