The Orb are set to present a new collection gathering some of the best cuts from the WAU! Mr Modo label.
Acid House was a starting point for a whole new generation of producers. Inspired to craft electronic music, this new breed of talent soon began incorporating a disparate array of influences.
Seminal label WAU! Mr Modo began releasing some of the more striking yet out there talent. The imprint was helmed by The Orb and producer Youth, and managed to produce some genuine crossover hits.
The Orb’s chill out anthem ‘Little Fluffy Clouds’ enjoyed surprising success, while the roster was completed by the likes of Orbital, Thomas Fehlmann and even an appearance from Chicago house legend Marshall Jefferson.
Set to be compiled on a new three disc compilation, ‘Impossible Oddities’ is a new over view of the strikingly unique label.
Issuing a statement, WAU! peer and Clash scribe Kris Needs describes the ethos behind the label. “WAU! Mr Modo was the product of likeminded music freaks and lifelong friends Youth and Dr. Alex Paterson, setting out to celebrate and play their part in the acid house revolution sweeping the UK in the late 80s.”
“In the process, they became two of the most well-known and lasting influential names to emerge from the whole movement, while the label epitomises the innocence and questing spirit of the era.”
Meanwhile, Dr Alex Paterson says that the inspiration initially came from Chicago and Detroit. “We wanted to form a label after spending 1986-87 listening to the likes of Tony Humphries,” said the producer.
“With the Chicago and Detroit house sound in mind, we wanted to find any DJs playing it in London, and also had our own ideas for a sound that would make a footprint in the world of popular song and change people’s ideas of music forever.”
‘Impossible Oddities’ is due to be released on November 29th.
