The Orb and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry have completed work on a new collaborative album.
The Orb have always admitted their love of dub music, with Jamaican culture leaving its stamp all over their output. So it’s perhaps surprising that the legendary duo haven’t work with Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry before.
The seminal, unpredictable producer apparently entered the studio with The Orb last year, resulting in a full collaborative album. News broke via Pulse Radio, who interviewed Alex Paterson about the group’s upcoming activities.
Revealing that The Orb have been working with Scratch, Alex Paterson said: “We wanted to do a souly type, modern, minimal album with some reggae influences with his (Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry) vocals on top. I think its one of the best bits of work we’ve ever done.”
The Orb are set to visit Australia in March, with Alex Paterson hinting that subsequent shows could feature a guest appearance from Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry.
“He’s gonna be coming out on tour with us as well. We’ll be doing festivals at the end of this year; hopefully we’ll be coming down to Australia again before Christmas”, Paterson explained.
“We’ve agreed to do a few festivals because the album’s coming out in September, and you just heard that first. I only got that information two days ago basically.”
The Orb / Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry are set to release a new album in September.
