In a new book the daughter of John Phillips – leader of The Mamas And The Papas – claims she had a ten year sexual relationship with her father.
The Mamas And The Papas were one of the biggest pop groups of the late 60s. Emerging from the bohemian folk scene the four piece crafted stunning melodies with their intricate harmonies.
Still held in a high regard the group’s run of hits charted an important times in the history of the United States and the world at large. However recent revelations from the daughter of John Phillips, the group’s leader, could shatter their image forever.
Former child TV star MacKenzie Phillips claims in a new autobiography that she and her father had a ten year sexual relationship which began in 1979 – when she was 19 years old.
In MacKenzie Phillips’ new book ‘High On Arrival’ the one time child star claims that she began having sex with her father on the night she was due to be married off to a member of The Rolling Stones’ entourage.
“I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father,” she writes.
The relationship ended after MacKenzie Phillips became pregnant, with John Phillips paying for an abortion. She was never sure who the father was, and in a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey stated “I never let him touch me again”.
However MacKenzie Phillips claimed she forgave her father on his deathbed in 2001, describing him as “very tortured man”.
MacKenzie Phillips claims he been disputed by Genevieve Waite, her father’s wife during the period of the alleged relationship.
In a statement read out by Winfrey, she said John Phillips was “incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, of having such a relationship with his own child.”
