Scandinavian electro types The Knife are working on new material, but it could be released under a different name.
Hailing from Sweden, The Knife are one of the most puzzling groups in dance. Brother / sister duo Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olaf Dreijer make dark yet beguiling electro pop, backed with a jaw dropping live display.
Taking time off, Karin Dreijer Andersson launched the Fever Ray project, which resulted in one tremendous album. Now again working with her brother, the singer has warned that new material may not be attributed to The Knife.
Fever Ray are currently playing what could prove to be their final American dates, and the singer was keen to look to the future. “Olof, my brother, he’s in Stockholm now,” she told 6Music. “We will start to work a little bit as well and we’ll see what happens.”
Recent online rumour had linked Karin Dreijer Andersson to the so far anonymous project iamamiwhoami.
“Yes that’s Knife and this is Fever Ray,” she laughed. Adding: “I don’t know. I mean, we haven’t been working with The Knife things for many years now so maybe we don’t like it, or maybe it’s very fun. I don’t know.”
Any new material from The Knife would be gratefully received. The group last released a studio album with ‘Silent Shout’ in 2006, although they did construct an opera which toured widely last year.
“I think it’s time now,” she said. “It was quite a long time ago since I was in the studio. We have one more week of (Fever Ray) shows in September in Europe but after that I really think that should be final because I need to make new things now.”
The identity of iamamiwhoami remains unsolved…
