Welsh indie rock trio The Joy Formidable have been snapped up by Black Bell in a new Stateside deal.
Forming in North Wales, The Joy Formidable were forced to travel to London to allow their music to reach a wider audience. Playing a series of stunning shows, the band’s limited edition singles have found some appreciative ears.
Releasing their new single ‘Popinjay’ on Monday (April 5th) The Joy Formidable have stepped up a gear. With a cascading guitar riff and searing vocals, the track recalls The Breeders at their most unhinged.
Available now via iTunes, The Joy Formidable’s new single is also out on a limited edition run of red vinyl. Sold via Pure Groove or Rough Trade, there are only small quantities of ‘Popinjay’ left.
Now The Joy Formidable have set their sights on the United States. The band have been snapped up by Black Bell, the record label run by Passion Pit.
The two groups have a vastly different sound, yet share the same independent ethos. With Passion Pit working hard to make the label work, the North Wales indie punk tykes are in good hands.
The first release on Black Bell with be the forthcoming EP ‘A Balloon Called Moaning’. Collecting tracks already released in this country, it is a stunning introduction to The Joy Formidable.
Due for release on May 4th, the new EP will coincide with The Joy Formidable’s first shows in the United States – including a sold out show at New York’s Mercury Lounge.
