The Jesus And Mary Chain look back on new single ‘Pop Seeds’.
The Reid brothers are clearly in reflective mode, with their memoir Never Understood out on book shelves now. Published by the redoubtable White Rabbit Books, it’s gaining rave reviews, exploring the Jesus and Mary Chain’s often live-wire past.
Signing to Fuzz Club Records for their ‘Glasgow Eyes’ album, the band are seemingly in a creative mode. New single ‘Pop Seeds’ is a pared back piece of pop minimalism, the bubbling electronics acting as a done throughout.
The acoustic chords and gleeful stomp hark back to long nights in their bedrooms, poring over “punk rock magazines” and “plastic tambourines”.
While the relationship between the Reid brothers has sometimes been fractious, Jim and William have rarely sounded so harmonious – this is a cute, old fashioned seven inch single, with a side order of danger, too.
Tune in now.
