The Flaming Lips Team With a 13 Year Old Fan For Nick Cave Covers Album

Check out their take on 'Girl In Amber'...

The Flaming Lips have recorded a Nick Cave covers album with a 13 year old fan.

The release is titled 'Where The Viaduct Looms', and follows Oklahoma sessions it will be released on October 25th.

A preview is online now, featuring The Flaming Lips working on a glacial version of 'Girl In Amber' – with a surprise vocalist.

Nell Smith is a 13 year old fan, who has been attending shows by the psych-pop group for three years.

Frontman Wayne Coyne spotted Nell at the shows with her father, and following an exchange of details the project swiftly got under way.

Wayne Coyne comments: “It is always great to meet excited, young creative people. With Nell we could see she is on a journey and thought it would be fun to join her for a while and see if we could get things going. It was a great way to connect with her and help harness her cool attitude to making music.”

It's far from the first collaborative record The Flaming Lips have undertaken – Nell Smith follows in the footsteps of Miley Cyrus, and many more.

A special version of 'Girl In Amber' is online now, check it out now.
