Swedish producer The Field is to return with his third album ‘Looping State Of Mind’.
More than a decade from the inception of Kompakt, the German label continues to be an inspirational force in techno. Often hidden on the sidelines, the gentle production of The Field represents one of the label’s real high points.
Real name Axel Willner, the Swedish producer dropped debut platter ‘From Here We Go Sublime’ in 2007. A stunning introduction, the material seemed at one machine-like and completely organic.
Containing a deep rooted melancholy, the often nostalgic material had a real emotional depth which techno can often lack.
Returning with second album ‘Yesterday & Today’ the producer imbedded himself in the consciousness of music fans. Now The Field has confirmed plans for a third offering, which further expands his palette.
‘Looping State Of Mind’ is set to drop on October 24th, with Kompakt once again handling the release. Little has been heard from the new album, although Willner has admitted to adding acoustic flourishes.
Working in the Dumbo Studios in Cologne, the creative process was apparently quite natural. Mixing samples with new instrumentation, The Field have added double bass and piano led flourishes.
Using his home studio to focus on new ideas, it seems that the resulting material looked backwards on recurring themes while breaking new ground. In a short statement the producer said: “Some of the ideas stretching back to the debut are still there. But we’ve just made a real attempt to grow the sound.”
Available on October 25th, ‘Looping State Of Mind’ is due to be released on CD, double LP and as a digital download.
