Legendary Manchester post-punk group The Fall are set to re-issue several of their studio albums next year.
The Fall were formed in 1976, initially as a collective with each member having an equal say in the group’s sound and direction. However within a few months it became clear that lead singer Mark E Smith had a few clear ideas on where the band should be progressing.
Thus began one of British music’s longest, most confusing and frequently acclaimed careers. Over the course of some thirty years The Fall have released countless seminal albums, with Mark E Smith also indulging in a few solo projects.
Still going strong, the band recently returned to the studio to work on their latest album. Signed to Domino Records, The Fall are set to release ‘Our Future – Your Clutter’ in January.
In addition to this The Fall are due to look back over their lengthy back catalogue. A new series of re-issues is set to begin with classic 1985 album ‘This Nation’s Saving Grace’.
Recorded while Mark E Smith was still married to fashion fixated Chicago model Brix Smith. Adding some pop hooks to the band, Brix Smith was also apparently instrumental in The Fall’s material beginning to have a typical verse-chorus structure.
However that didn’t stop Mark E Smith from indulging in a bit of Krautrock worship on ‘I Am Damo Suzuki’.
Due to be re-issued next year, The Fall’s album ‘This Nation’s Saving Grace’ will come with a box of accompanying notes as well as a number of never previously released tracks.
Due to include alternate versions of ‘Cruisers Creek’, ‘Rollin’ Dany’ and ‘Couldn’t Get Ahead’ a release date for the new re-issue has not been set.
