The Drums Unveil Second Album

'Portamento' due on September 12th

The Drums have confirmed that second album ‘Portamento’ is due to be released on September 12th.

Arriving in a hail of hype, The Drums’ debut album was steeped in indie pop tradition. The New York based quartet mixed a love of surf music with an appreciation of Orange Juice, resulting in a bubbly, buoyant debut record.

However the shimmering charm of their debut belied the internal pressures in the acclaimed newcomers. Touring across North America and Europe, The Drums were eventually reduced to a three piece.

Completing their tour, the band decided to begin work on new material immediately. Sessions were kept under wraps, but it seems that The Drums have been able to complete their second album in an unexpectedly short time.

Breaking cover, The Drums have confirmed that new album ‘Portamento’ will be released on September 12th. Reduced to the core trio of Jonathan Pierce, keyboardist Jacob Graham and drummer Conor Hanwick, the band are joined for live appearances by two extra members.

‘Portamento’ will be preceded by new single ‘Money’. Due for release on September 5th, you can listen to the single below…

Finally, the surf-pop outfit will perform at London’s XOYO venue on September 7th. After this, The Drums will pack their bags for a trip to Bestival where they will air material from their second album.
