The Drums Kickstart Second Album

After losing guitar player

The Drums are preparing to begin work on their second album, after a lengthy UK tour.

The Drums arrived in a blizzard of hype earlier this year, matching sweet, harmonious indie pop with biting lyrics. The sweet / sour pattern was alive and well, with their debut album receiving critical acclaim.

Touring across the globe, the band were placed under immense strain. The Drums lost guitarist Adam Kessler during a North American tour, exiting after just one album with the newcomers.

In no mood to hang around, The Drums are already focussing on their second album. Singer Jonathan Pierce recently told the NME that the New York based trio are already plotting their next move.

“At the end of this tour, we’re taking a couple of months off,” he said “but it’s not to relax, it’s to make our next album.”

The band are warming up for their final UK tour of 2010, with The Drums playing a lengthy series of dates. From the frontman’s statements, it is clear that the band are living for the here and now.

“This may not last forever – we might have three albums, maybe four. Who knows?” he mused. “We might have a hundred. It’s good to do it all now. I feel like we all share this nervous energy and a fire in our belly.”

“The road isn’t ideal for us to actually record on because we’re so busy and we don’t want that to affect the songs we’re writing,” said Pierce. “We’ve been writing down ideas and we kind of feel like the last two or three months have been one big creative band meeting.”
